Last week, we travelled to the High North of our Corridor as we held our governance and RAG/TAG meetings in Narvik.
To many, this coastal town in Northern Norway might not ring any bells… yet its strategic importance cannot be underestimated! As we marked the port’s inclusion in the RFC, we used this occasion to highlight to our stakeholders and customers Narvik’s business potential for rail freight.
High-quality Swedish iron ore on its way to every corner of the globe? Check!
Crucial trade in consumer goods between Norway and the rest of the continent? Check!
Critical military mobility hub in light of Sweden’ and Finland’s entry into NATO? Check!
During the RAG/TAG meeting, we discussed:
- The Port of Narvik
- Railway ferries
- The future of Norwegian rail freight
- The Femern Belt Platform
- The potential alternatives to the Øresund bridge for future capacity needs
- Possible TRC compensation schemes
- The representation of RAG/TAG within the new Rail Freight Governance
- The maintenance work performed by Vossloh on Swedish rail infrastructure
- Finland’s involvement in the RFC
- Our planned PaP Offer and preliminary PaP Catalogue for TT2026
Special thanks go to the Port of Narvik and its Managing Director, Børge Edvardsen Klingan, for their warm hospitality. Moreover, we would like to extend our gratitude to Bane NOR’s Regional Director Thor Brækkan and the port’s team for guiding us through the port’s facilities and the rail freight terminal. Witnessing the unloading of Swedish iron ore from Kiruna was a particularly impactful experience!
Likewise, we thank all presenters – Børge Edvardsen Klingan, Torgny Nilsson, Oskar Stenström, Stefano Marcoccio, Tomas Arvidsson, Andrea M. Penso, Peter Johnsson, and Rainer Wolf – and participants for their insights, questions, and interest in our activities.
Mark our words: it will not be the last piece of news from above the Arctic Circle!
