On the occasion of NJS’s (Forum för Nordiskt Järnvägssamarbete) 150 years anniversary, last week our President Linda Thulin travelled to Copenhagen to attend the conference ”Towards a more attractive railway in the Nordics.”
As a speaker during a panel debate on international rail freight, she presented ScanMed’s latest developments and the Corridor’s value for Nordic railways. Particularly, she underlined the impact of the newly revised TEN-T regulation, which extended our Corridor by stretching it to Kiruna and Narvik, connecting it with Finland, and adding the Oslo-Stockholm line.
As she went through the joint challenges and ambitions of the rail sector across Europe, she focused on the actions ScanMed RFC is undertaking through the Femern Belt Platform, where we coordinate and cooperate with a myriad other stakeholders to rip the maximum market benefits of the Femern Belt Fixed Link, currently under construction.
Even though the RFCs will eventually cease to exist in their current form, our President expressed confidence that the future European legal framework for rail transport will present us with new opportunities and ways to strengthen international rail freight further.
In her words: ”No matter what happens, there will always be a need for coordination, transparency, and efficiency in the way we approach capacity planning, traffic management, performance management, and ICMs.” The Corridor’s experience will then be of great help.
