Freight transport, meet digitalisation!
Today, the first eFTI implementing and delegated acts entered into force. With them, the EU undertook a critical step towards digitalising freight transport.
Unsure what eFTI means? Here is a quick recap.
- What: The eFTI Regulation.
- Why: To digitalise data exchanges between businesses and authorities, easing administrative burdens, ensuring compliance with EU and national freight regulations, enhancing data security, and facilitating information sharing between businesses.
- How: Cargo transport data is shared via secure, certified IT platforms which can be integrated into companies’ existing data management systems.
- When: The European Commission published the delegated and implementing acts in July 2024. Now, Member States can start developing the IT systems. In one year, eFTI platforms and service providers can start preparing for operations. Full implementation will occur in July 2027.
Once eFTI is fully implemented, transport operators will benefit from:
- Shorter delays caused by inspections
- More efficient logistics planning, vehicle loading, and routing
- Administrative cost savings
