Commissioner-designate for Sustainable Transport and Tourism Apostolos Tzitzikostas sailed through his hearing in front of the TRAN Committee.
Last night, as he faced the European Parliament’s Transport Committee, Tzitzikostas pledged to:
- Continue the battle to decarbonise the transport sector
- Speed up the completion of the TEN-T
- Propose a blueprint to connect EU capitals by high-speed rail
- Put forward a legislative proposal for a single digital rail ticketing system
- Work on a military mobility action plan in coordination with NATO
- Fight for more funding for transport infrastructure in the next EU budget
ScanMed RFC welcomes Tzitzikostas’s promises to boost rail, his recognition that our sector is “central to the EU’s transport Corridors,” and his reassurance that the completion of the EU’s railway network will be “a top priority” for his mandate.
As the Commissioner-designate received the backing of 2/3 of the TRAN Committee, he will face the EP’s plenary at the end of November, when MEPs will vote on the College of Commissioners as a whole.
