Habemus a new European Commission!
With 370 votes in favour, 282 against, and 36 abstentions, MEPs gathered in Strasbourg gave their green light to the new College of Commissioners, paving the way for its entry into office on December 1st.
In her speech to the European Parliament plenary, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen presented the Commissioners and outlined the EU executive’s programme for the next five years, which will rest on a Competitiveness Compass developed in the footsteps of the Draghi Report. 🧭
Specifically, the Compass will be based on three pillars:
- Closing the innovation gap with the US and China
- A joint plan for decarbonisation and competitiveness
- Increasing security and reducing dependencies
Concerning the green transition, the President reiterated that Europe must stay the course on the European Green Deal, while recognising that each industry has different needs and each sector will pursue its own path to becoming greener and more competitive.
ScanMed RFC congratulates the Commission President and her new team for their confirmation. Our Corridor is ready to continue the fruitful cooperation also with the incoming College and work together to increase the modal shift to rail, facilitate cross-border traffic, build resilient transport infrastructure, and accelerate the deployment of digital tools along Europe’s transport network.
