EU funding flowing to Italy through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) is being put to good use to modernize port infrastructure facilities, said Federica Montaresi, Secretary-General of the Port Authority for the Eastern Ligurian Sea (ADSP MLO) and ScanMed RFC TAG Spokeperson, in a recent interview.
The Port Authority has successfully awarded all the tenders falling within the PNRR while respecting foreseen timelines. The priority list includes building the electricity supply network, integrating services and procedures between the ports of La Spezia and Marina di Carrara, and redeveloping the waterfront between port and city.
Moreover, to further develop railway connections, the port is focusing on increasing rail freight traffic from 33% to 50%, completing the new port station by 2025, expanding the Ravano and Golfo terminals, and digitalizing services to make last mile maneuvering operations more efficient.
